Non-UK national couple struggle with mortgage

Key features:

First time buyer residential purchase. Clients both Non-UK nationals. Being unfamiliar with the UK mortgage market, clients were confused about where to start.

Our client:

Our client approached Oportfolio to help them to secure a mortgage after struggling to find one on their own.

Originally from a country outside of the UK and being Non-UK nationals, they were very nervous and cautious after receiving conflicting information from friends, family, and the internet about how to secure a UK mortgage.

How did we help?

Our advisor Jade understood the predicament that our clients were in and was sympathetic to the struggles that a non-uk national would have. After speaking to the clients, she understood that they needed a full explanation of the mortgage process here and what it entailed.

Our clients soon realised that the bank products and interest rates turned out to be very different to the mortgages they would have been able to get in their home country. With a clear understanding of what they were looking to do and wanted to achieve, our advisor knew which lender to approach and submitted their entire mortgage application on their behalf so that they didn’t need to worry about anything.

To ensure the mortgage application went through as smoothly as possible, we regularly kept in contact with the clients explaining everything that was going on clearly and providing the mortgage lender with everything they needed. As part of our commitment to helping our clients, we also constantly liaised with their estate agents and solicitors too, to help push things along.

Oportfolio’s mortgage administration team worked tirelessly to make sure our client’s application was perfect and we managed to help secure the most competitive and beneficial mortgage on the market for their circumstances.

Here is the feedback we received from the clients after their mortgage offer has been issued:

‘We were extremely satisfied with the quality of service received from Oportfolio. Jade, our mortgage broker, clearly knew very well what she was doing and handled our case with great professionalism and care. She was very friendly and open to all sorts of questions we had throughout the process. Apart from Jade, Lydia and She-rel were also of great help to us by staying in touch with the lender and the life insurance provider and giving us regular updates. We would definitely and wholeheartedly recommend Oportfolio!’

What was the rate?

A 1.23% rate was fixed until 30/09/2023, and after the fixed period, it reverted to the bank’s 3.59% standard variable rate.

The overall cost for comparison is 3.2% APRC. The arrangement fee was £999, and early repayment charges were applied. The mortgage term was 22 years, and they had a 30% deposit.
